Autumn People

Autumn People:
My favorite quote by Albert Camus:
Autumn is a second spring, when every leaf is a flower.
If I could write words
Like leaves on an autumn forest floor,
What a bonfire my letters would make.
by Spike Milligan 1918-unknown, written in 1956

Leaves are scattering across my drive way leading up to my house, there is a crispness to the air signaling a change in seasons.  Autumn has and will always remain my favorite time of year. My thoughts trail back to when my first child was born the first day of autumn, three decades ago. Can it be that many autumns have come and gone?

I remember when a package arrived from Scotland, my (former) in-laws sent me this beautiful scarf hand made in Scotland with a hat (not shown) and as always a tin of cookies.   All these years later, the scarf has stood the test of time the colors are as brilliant today as when it was made.  I have to wonder if the weavers were inspired by the colors of fall when they created these beautiful tartan plaids?
A true testament  to the weavers of the tartan, Alice Macdonell, a poet, who captures the symbolism of the many threads which the weaver uses to make up Scotland and which bind Scots to their homeland , no matter where they live in the world.   An excerpt from Alice Macdonell's poem:
The Weaving of the Tartan published in 1894,
"'Tis for the gallant lads," she said,
"Who wear the kilt and tartan plaid:
'Tis for the winsome lasses too,
Just like my dainty bells of blue.
So weave well the bright threads,
The red threads, the green threads;
Woof well the strong threads
That bind their hearts to mine."

As my day becomes night - and I light a fire in the fireplace and begin to prepare dinner- I look around me and I am ever grateful for all the beauty in my life-- for it is a celebration of the  intangible gifts of loving kindness, and the generosity of spirit of all those who have been a part of my life!

Mel Gibson heard about Willow's Ball and asked to be my escort,  I replied only if you wear your kilts, kind sir, and the two of us left  without any one noticing- well except his adoring fan clubs waiting outside while we waited for the limo to arrive.
